A Message from the Principal
I would like to welcome everyone back for the 2016-2017 school year. It is with great pride that I serve as Principal of Columbia High School. My goal is to work each day to provide our students with a safe and nurturing environment that will help them become contributing members of the community and ensure that all students are college and career ready. We aim to help every child become a global learner and reach their full potential.
In the past year we celebrated increases in student attendance, English End of Course test scores ACT, SAT, and AP passage rate. In addition, Columbia High had its highest on-time graduation rate in over a decade. Our faculty is devoted to offering the best learning environment to increase student achievement. Columbia High’s dedicated staff includes a member of the State Superintendent of Education’s Teacher Council, several College Board scholarship recipients, as well as South Carolina’s State Librarian of the Year.
We are excited to prepare students with World Class Knowledge for life and career paths after high school through our STEM academies; Air Force Junior ROTC; Social Sciences; Visual and Performing Arts; and Foreign Language Programs. During the 2015-2016 school year over twenty students completed the Biomedical, Health Science, Finance, and Engineering Academies. Our students also have the opportunity to earn college credit through Advanced Placement courses and Teacher Cadet. Through these programs, students are learning solid work ethics, interpersonal skills, and are taking ownership of their own learning and futures.
Over three hundred students participated in athletics, while maintaining a solid academic record of a C average or better. Some of athletic accomplishments included: three Region Champions in Wrestling, three South Carolina State Individual Champions in Wrestling, a two-Time South Carolina State Runner-up & North-South All -Star in Wrestling, and a State Champion in the Shot put for two consecutive years.
Our staff and community work hard to equip students with the world class skills necessary to promote critical thinking and problem solving and to foster creativity and innovation. We look forward to giving students the necessary tools to be successful graduates prepared for future academic, career, and life success. We Just Can’t Hide That Capital Pride!
